Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

How to register for the GRE:

  • Call Testing Services (785) 864-2772 or (785) 864-2768 to register by phone. *
  • Call 1-800 GRE-CALL (University of Kansas' site number is 7566) *
  • Go to Testing Services at #2150, Watkins Memorial Health Center to register in person. *
  • Register Online *
  • Pick up a bulletin at Testing Services or visit the GRE web site to fill out a registration form. When you get your voucher number, call our center to register for a specific date and time.
* You will need a credit card or voucher number for all options. (You may use a check or money order if paying at the office.)

Description:

The GRE is used for admission into many graduate programs. This exam consists of three scored sections: Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical writing.

Fee: $160 - From August 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011, the Revised GRE is 50% off. This is an exclusive offer for test taker who are among the first to take the GRE revised General Test.

Times offered: Daily; Monday - Saturday (8:30 and 12:30) - Reporting times are 8:00 and 12:00-12:30, respectively.

Testing times may vary depending on the time of year. Some evenings times are offered during peak season.

Testing time: Approximately 4.5 hours

ID required: 2 forms of ID, both with signatures, at least one must be a government issued ID with photo. (Driver's license or state ID) A passport is required if not U.S. citizen)

Re-testing:Once every 60 days - no more than five times per twelve month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.

Special requests/accomodations: Candidate must call to schedule with ETS at 609-771-7670.

Test Aids: Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. NO OTHER TEST AIDS ALLOWED! Nothing may be taken into the testing room except for ID and key to locker.

Study Materials: Study materials can be downloaded from the GRE website at any time. Other study aids can be found at area bookstores and libraries.

Test Scores: Note: Tests taken after August 1, 2011 will have scores reported after the beginning of November. Please visit the GRE website for the full schedule of scoring dates. Candidates will be able to view their unofficial scores of the verbal and quantitative sections on the computer after completing the exam (after the first few months of the implementation fo the Revised GRE) and can select up to four schools to receive their scores. The candidate and the selected schools will receive the official scores in two to three weeks.

Rescheduling: Must call 3 full days (not including day of test or day of request) prior to appointment and pay a $50 rescheduling fee. To transfer to another site when rescheduling call 609-771-7670. Please call Prometric Services at 1-443-751-4820 or 1-800-473-2255 to reschedule your appointment after August 1, 2011. Special rules apply during the implementation of the Revised GRE.

Cancellation: Must call 3 full days (not including day of test or day of request) prior to appointment in order to receive a refund. Must follow guidelines in the GRE Bulletin and submit a written request to receive the refund. Refer any other refund questions to 1-800-GRE-CALL.
